Wedding Confetti and Bubbles

Newlyweds being showered in a burst of colourful confetti as they leave their wedding venue after the ceremony is an iconic moment that is commonplace at many weddings. Find the right confetti for your special day here at Hitched and remember to check with your wedding venue that they allow it.

Why Do You Throw Wedding Confetti?

The tradition of throwing confetti at a wedding can be traced back to the Middle Ages as a way of wedding guests congratulating the happy couple and wishing them good luck and a lifetime of happiness. Uncooked rice was typically thrown, but today there are lots of beautiful alternatives.

Speak to your wedding photographer and let them know when your wedding guests will be throwing confetti as they will be able to capture some amazing snaps of this magical moment. It doesn’t have to be thrown immediately after you say ‘I do’, you could save it for your wedding reception or the first dance.

Types of Wedding Confetti

Confetti is designed to be lightweight to allow for it to flutter (and not hurt when it lands on your head). Paper confetti is made from coloured tissue paper and cut into cute shapes such as hearts, horseshoes, stars and circles. You can also opt for personalised wedding confetti or glitter, but be aware that this may be tricky to clean up.

If you’re looking for biodegradable wedding confetti, consider petal confetti made from dried flowers. It’ll look gorgeous and it’s a lot better for the environment.

It is also important to consider how you are going to store and hand out your wedding confetti. Little sachets and wedding confetti cones work wonderfully!

What Are Wedding Bubbles?

Many couples are looking to wedding bubbles instead of confetti. They are slightly more expensive than cheap wedding confetti options but your guests will love them and there will be no mess left over! You could even hand out mini wedding bubbles as wedding favours for your guests to take away.
